Our highlight of the year

A circular economy can only be created together

In 2020, ACW-Film once again made considerable progress in its efforts to raise the recyclability of its packaging films: it developed single-material composites capable of replacing composite films made from mixed raw materials. These single-material composites have the same product properties as conventional composite films, but can be recycled.

ACW-Film is currently holding talks with numerous partners along the value chain in order to introduce these and other innovative packaging films for the food industry. One thing is clear though: to achieve greater sustainability, the development and production of recyclable or ecologically safe packaging alone is not enough. Sustainability can only be achieved when all processes for the production, use, and recycling of packaging materials are integrated into a comprehensive circular economy and these processes are coordinated down to the last detail.

This includes the processes of the packaging material manufacturers and of their partners in the supply chain, as well as those of the manufacturers of plant and machinery for packaging materials. Those who purchase packaging materials – the actual product manufacturers – must also make the appropriate adjustments, as must the waste management and recycling industries. And finally, politicians and consumers also have a role to play: for example, in setting the framework conditions and correctly sorting innovative packaging solutions after their use.

A circular economy can therefore only be achieved if everyone pulls together to develop mutually beneficial solutions. The dialog initiated by ACW-Film several years ago is making a valuable contribution to this process.

Our positioning

ACW-Film focuses on the supply of specialty and niche products within the packaging film segment. Its key competitive advantages include a high degree of flexibility and fast response times. In addition, ACW-Film boasts cutting-edge technologies and exceptional customer service. ACW-Film products are also available in small and medium-sized batches, whereby their high quality guarantees excellent, high-performance, and trouble-free processing for the client.

Our strategy

ACW-Film is targeting further revenue growth in the coming years. Particular potential has been identified in the roll-out of further sustainable packaging solutions developed in cooperation with customers. The recyclability of products and the use of sustainable raw material combinations are the main focus areas.

Market and business trends in 2020

ACW-Film achieved moderate sales growth in 2020. This was mainly attributable to a number of successfully implemented major projects with important customers. In addition, the first sustainable packaging solutions were approved for use in the past fiscal year, which have already resulted in initial revenues. The past fiscal year was also characterized by numerous activities to safeguard the supply chain and ensure reliable deliveries.

Outlook 2021

ACW-Film is upbeat about its prospects in 2021. Activities will continue to focus on ensuring maximum delivery reliability and safeguarding supply chains. Further major customer projects are expected to generate additional sales. Moreover, the company will focus on new developments and enhancements in the field of sustainable packaging solutions. Various processes and options for recyclability, biodegradability, and water solubility are currently being examined. Aluminum-free packaging solutions and paper as an alternative to films are also being analyzed with a view to their suitability for industrial use.
